Are you looking for an easy and cheap DIY picture frame? This is it!
This is also a great DIY picture frame for kids to help with too.
Here are the supplies that I used:
An unfinished picture frame, paint, 2 paint brushes, one piece of scrapbook paper, Mod Podge and an X-Acto knife.
The picture frame I bought on sale for under $5, the scrapbook paper was $.79. The rest of the supplies I already had on hand. Even if you need to buy everything it is still a cheap project.
The first thing I did was I painted the back of the picture frame and the inside of the picture area. Basically anywhere there wouldn’t be scrapbook I made sure there was paint.
I chose grey for my paint color because it matched my scrapbook color. I ended up putting 2 coats of paint on the frame. The unfinished wood really absorbs the paint.
Once the paint was completely dry I wanted to add the scrapbook paper. I applied a coat of Mod Podge to the unfinished wood, then put the scrapbook paper on the frame.
Once I put the scrapbook paper on the frame I used a plastic card to make sure there weren’t any air bubbles.
I let the Mod Podge dry for about 1 hour before using the X-Acto knife to cut off the extra scrapbook paper.
If you are doing this project with kids you will definitely want to help out during this step, or even do that part yourself. Those knives are very sharp.
Once all of the paper was cut I applied a coat of Mod Podge to the scrapbook paper.
That’s it! My picture frame was complete.
